First and foremost, ladies, you should be dressing for yourselves and no one else. Your style is an extension of yourself and you should embrace, cherish and wear it proud!
Second, most guys typically aren't into things those in the fashion world declare fashionable (hence the reason he probably thinks it's appropriate to wear to sweats and flip-flops out to dinner and the reason you typically need to offer him a little advice before going out in public). So if your man doesn't like it, well, you're probably doing something right!

Most guys simply don't care. They might think something looks weird or isn't showing off your figure like those hip-hugging club dresses, but they're not necessarily judging your outfits.
In the end, it doesn't matter what you wear as long as you feel good about yourself.
